Technical FAQ
What is a DIN rail power supply? +
A DIN rail power supply is a switched-mode power supply (SMPS) housed in a compact metal or plastic enclosure designed to snap onto a standard DIN rail inside an electrical cabinet. It converts AC mains (e.g. 100–240 VAC or 380 VAC) into a stable, low-voltage DC output (commonly 24 VDC, 12 VDC or 48 VDC) used to power PLCs, sensors, contactors, relays and industrial control systems.
✔ DIN rail mounting saves panel space and makes installation and maintenance fast and standardized.
What output voltage do I need? +
The most common industrial standard is 24 VDC, suitable for the vast majority of PLC, sensor and automation applications. Choose based on your load's rated voltage:
- 24 VDC — industrial automation (default choice)
- 12 VDC — LED, CCTV, small electronics
- 48 VDC — telecom, POE, longer-distance systems
- 5 VDC — logic / microcontroller circuits
✔ Always match the power supply output to the rated voltage of your load; even small deviations can damage equipment.
How do I calculate the power / current I need? +
Use the formula: Power (W) = Voltage (V) × Current (A), then add a safety margin.
- Add up the total wattage of all loads connected to the supply.
- For current: A = W ÷ V.
- We recommend a 20–30% reserve to handle inrush currents and future expansion.
What does efficiency mean, and why does it matter? +
Efficiency is the ratio of output power to input power, expressed as a percentage. A higher efficiency means less energy lost as heat. SANMU POWER DIN rail supplies typically achieve 88% – 95% efficiency.
- Higher efficiency → lower electricity cost & less heat generation.
- Less heat → longer lifespan & reduced cooling requirements.
- Look for units that comply with ERP / CoC Tier 2 or equivalent energy standards.
What protections are required / included? +
A quality DIN rail power supply should include the following built-in protections:
- Short Circuit Protection (SCP / OCP) — auto-recovery or latch-off on fault.
- Overvoltage Protection (OVP) — prevents damaging voltage spikes.
- Overload / Overcurrent Protection (OLP).
- Over Temperature Protection (OTP).
- Surge / inrush current limiting.
✔ All SANMU POWER units come with full OCP / OVP / OTP / SCP as standard.
What are the typical applications? +
DIN rail power supplies are widely used in: industrial automation & control panels, PLC & DCS systems, factory machinery, building automation (BMS / HVAC), LED lighting, CCTV & security, telecom cabinets, renewable energy & battery backup systems, and railway / transportation signaling.

Installation FAQ
How is the power supply mounted? +
Slide the top edge of the unit onto the DIN rail, then press the bottom inward until it clicks / latches into place. To remove, use a screwdriver to pull down the release clip at the base. No screws or drilling are required, making field replacement quick.
What DIN rail is compatible? +
Most industrial units are designed for the standard 35 mm DIN rail (TS-35 / EN 60715), specifically the top-hat profile (TH35). Some smaller models also support 32 mm rails. Always check the datasheet for exact compatibility.
What is the operating temperature range? +
Standard units typically operate from -10 °C to +50 / +60 °C. For harsh environments, wide-temperature models cover -40 °C to +70 °C or higher. Note that many supplies derate output power above ~50 °C — check the derating curve in the datasheet.
✔ Ensure adequate ventilation and leave the recommended clearance around the unit inside the cabinet.
Can I wire AC and DC together in the same cabinet? +
Yes, but follow proper separation practices: keep AC input and DC output wiring in separate cable trays / conduits where possible, use correctly rated breakers and fusing, and respect all local electrical codes. Always disconnect power before wiring.
Do I need additional fusing or a circuit breaker? +
We recommend an appropriately sized input circuit breaker / fuse on the AC side and, for sensitive loads, a DC fuse or breaker on the output side. This protects both the supply and downstream equipment during faults.

OEM / ODM FAQ
Can you customize the output voltage or power rating? +
Yes. We offer flexible OEM/ODM customization including output voltage (5 V / 12 V / 24 V / 48 V or adjustable ranges), output power, connector types, enclosure size, and electrical parameters. Share your specification and we will propose a tailored solution.
Can you add our logo / brand on the product and packaging? +
Absolutely. We support private labeling: your company logo can be printed on the unit label, laser-etched or placed via a nameplate, and reproduced on the box, manual and outer carton — delivering a complete branded product.
What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)? +
MOQ depends on the model and level of customization:
- Standard models: low MOQ, often from 50–100 pcs.
- Customized (OEM/ODM) models: typically 500 pcs, negotiable based on project.
✔ Contact us with your target model and quantity — we will work to meet your needs.
Can you provide samples before bulk ordering? +
Yes, samples are available for evaluation. Sample costs and shipping are usually paid by the customer and may be credited against a subsequent bulk order. Lead time for samples is generally 3–7 days for standard units.
Do you provide technical / certification documentation? +
Yes — we supply datasheets, dimension drawings, wiring diagrams, and support certification needs such as CE, RoHS, REACH, UL/cUL where applicable. Let us know your target market's compliance requirements.
